Many of you will know that we’re a mother and daughter team here at Pink’s Vintage Ice Creams. One of the best things about working with my Mum is that we get to share the joy of being part of the happiest day of people’s lives.
But one happy day does not make a long and happy marriage.
1. Trust Each Other
Sometimes an idea might sound crazy or downright bananas. Go with it. After all, Pinks Vintage & Mrs Whippy all began with that bizarre Christmas present from my husband… the first ice cream van! I’m so glad I just went with it!
2. Learn From Each Other
We both have different skills and come from different employment backgrounds. We support and encourage each other, as well as sharing our skills. This has so far resulted in two very different, yet very successful businesses!
3. Make Time For Each Other
This sounds obvious but it is essential. It’s so easy to spend every waking moment talking about business and new pastures. Mr Whippy and I have a clocking-off point. And even if on occasion it’s only an hour first thing in the morning we make time to just ‘be’ together. This is so important.
4. Find A Mutual Hobby
For us, it’s travel, as we both love it so much. When times are really busy or challenging we arrange a trip to look forward to. Even if it’s just a mini break, discovering new places allows us to take a step back and keep everything in perspective.
5. Remember, It’s The Little Things That Count
Every morning Kevin makes me a cup of tea in my favourite mug and either brings it to me in bed or places it next to my favourite chair. It still makes me smile every morning! Small gestures of love made daily add up over the years and keep you appreciating each other.
So there you have it – simple and sound advice to ensure your marriage is a long and happy one.
Do you have any tips you’d love to share with us, or any of Mrs Whippy’s that stand out for you? We’d love for you to join us on our Facebook page and share with us!
